Beep Beep

This post would lead you to assume that there will be a part 2.  There will be, hopefully soon.  Sometimes it is hard for Mike to find the time to write on the blog in between all of his playing.  In the meantime, here is a little peak at his newest toy (yes, he is spoiled).

Tie Dyed Eggs (literally)

We tried a new method of dying eggs this Easter.  You use printed silk of some sort (I bought ties from Goodwill).  You wrap the eggs in the silk and tie it on then wrap that bundle in some sort of light colored cloth and tie it on as well.  You boil the bundles in water and 1/4 cup of vinegar for 20 minutes then remove the eggs from the pan.  Once they are cool enough to handle you can unwrap and admire your artwork.  Below are the eggs that turned out the best and the ties that were used for each (note I suggest not eating these eggs as you probably don't know what kinds of dyes are used in the silk).

We also made "Dinosaur" eggs by hard boiling the eggs then cracking the shell all over and allowing the eggs to soak in water and food coloring over night (no vinegar here - you don't want it to soak into the eggs and make them taste gross).  When you peel the eggs they look like the ones below:

Spring Break: Part I

Mike here.  My mom has been such a slacker with this blog lately I decided I needed to take over to let you know what I've been up to.  Boy have I been busy.   In between constantly saying my new favorite words (no-no and hot) I've barely had time to nap.  Last week Grandma Cami and Grandpa Mike drove all the way from Wyoming to visit me for spring break.  It was so much fun.  They got in on Tuesday evening.  Dad made a great dinner and then we started to go for a walk but only made it half way when everyone started getting worried because of some weird loud noises that mom called "sirens."  Once we got home we all went into the basement and watch a cool show on TV that showed a map of where we live with lots of pretty colors.  Green and yellow and orange and purple and pink.

On Wednesday mom left in the morning but instead of taking me to school to play with my friends I got to stay at home with Grandma, Grandpa, and daddy.  It was so cool.  For lunch we went an busted mom out of the big building she works in and made sure she got something to eat so she would have energy to do whatever it is she does all day.

On Thursday we got up drove a long way to this place with lots of animals.  The Loo, or Goo, or Zoo maybe.  Yeah, that's the one, the Zoo.

Watching the chimpanzees eat breakfast
Our first stop was the carousel.  It was so scary.  Have you ever seen one of those before?  All of those animals in one place moving in a big circle and going up and down?  I wanted nothing to do with it.  Mom and Grandma made me ride it anyway - can you believe them?  After the first time I decided I should probably put on my brave face and act like I was having fun so we did it again and I tricked them into thinking it wasn't so scary.

The scary carousel
Me putting on a brave face on the scary carousel
After the scary carousel we went to a place just for me.  The Children's Zoo.  It was so cool!  I got to pet bunnies, Guinea pigs and goats!  And I found plastic bananas to play with!
A nice basket of fruit in the children's zoo
Grandpa at the penguin house
After the children's zoo we went and looked at some bugs.  Mom and grandpa waited outside, I think they might have been scared.  Daddy, grandma and me were brave though.  The rest of the time was kind of a blur.  We ate some lunch and looked at lots of animals.  Big kitties, zebras, camels and lots more.  What a fun day!

Ice Cream Run

I had to work last Saturday. Quarter end in the financial reporting world is a busy time. Brad was gone at a research conference in Tucson most of last week, which created a stressful child care situation. Luckily we have wonderful friends who step in and help us out in times like these. On Thursday evening, Rachel picked Mike up from daycare and played with him all evening. Then on Saturday while I was at work, the wife of a coworker happily watched Mike for me. When I picked him up on Saturday afternoon it was a steamy 90 degrees. Between where I picked Mike up and home is a frozen custard place. After a quick discussion that went something like this:

Me: Mike, do you think we should stop and get some ice cream
Mike: nodding excitedly
Me: ok

We pulled into the parking lot and ordered a raspberry melba sundae to share.

Things to remember: Banana corn

I'm certain I've mentioned how much Mike likes bananas. I often call him "Monkey" and I swear I have purchased more bananas for him than I have eaten in my entire life. He has a banana with breakfast almost every morning and usually has at least one as part of his afternoon/evening snack. When he sees the bunch hanging there he starts grabbing for them with his little hands and saying "nana, nana, nana." Recently he has started to eat his bananas like someone would eat corn on the cob. He grabs each end and takes a big bite out of the middle. It cracks me up every time. Ahhh babies.
I know the pictures are kind of blurry and not so great, but sometimes to catch the moment all you have is a phone camera.

Sun dog

Sunday was hot. Nearly 90 degrees hot. Weird because earlier last week we had freezing temperatures. Anyway, Sammy loves to lay in the sun. I went outside to take the recylcing to the bin and she snuck out behind me and refused to go back inside. Instead of forcing her back in, I decided to join her and soak up a little sun myself.

Thank you!

Thanks to everyone for the wonderful birthday wishes today, I am quite the lucky girl to have all of you in my life. Oh, and if you were the one who sent me cookies at work today thank you! There was not any sort of an identifier in the package so I have no idea who they came from, so if it was you, please let me know.

His little pose cracks me up every time I look at this picture.
