Christmas Cookies

Last weekend Tracy came over to help my decorate Christmas cookies. We finished the decorating with snugglers (hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps). Mike was quite interested in the whole process and quite happy when we finally shared some of the finished product with him, though I'm pretty sure he just licked off all the icing and fed the cookie to Sam.

Apples

The other night while cooking dinner I handed Mike an apple to keep him entertained so I could finish cooking. He loved it and worked on eating it for nearly 20 minutes.

Things to Remember

Mike has this funny habit of propping his feet on the edge of his high chair every time he sits in it. It doesn't matter if he is eating or not, if he is happy, sad, mad or indifferent. If he is in his chair, his feet are wedged under the lip. When he was smaller he used to have to stretch for his feet to even reach, now, as his legs get longer he has to bend his knees to make it work.

Wild Lights

While my mom and sister were in town for Mike's birthday we headed to "Wild Lights" at the zoo. They decorate a large loop at the zoo with thousands of lights. I must admit, it was pretty awesome.

Party!

Mike's first birthday party was on Saturday. A house full of people showed once again how loved Mike is. My mom and sister flew out for the party and 20+ friends cleared their Saturday afternoon for some food, cake smashing, presents and hopefully some fun.

Decorating is hard work

By this point I think I was out of air.

The smash cake (decorated by my lovely sister)
The main cake...also decorated by Sarah

It may be an understatement to say that half of the water from the water table ended up on the floor on the kids.

Mike didn't disappoint with this cake either...much smashing occurred.
See Maegen, no one can tell you have food in your mouth...

More fun at the water table

Yep, Mike really did get an argyle sweater for his birthday. Brad is thrilled about it.

Why is it...

...That I can never seem to get out of the house on time?

...That I manage to spill water on my boob pretty much every single day at work?
...That this signs makes me chuckle everytime I walk by it?

The cake didn't stand a chance

Happy Birthday Mike!

Today my baby is one. It has been an amazing year. I have no idea where the time went but I will forever cherish the way our little family grew from 2 to 3 this year and everything we learned about love and each other.

Happy birthday buddy, I love you more than words can say.

One year ago today I looked something like this...

I was 39 weeks and 3 days pregnant. I got up that morning feeling perfectly normal. Well as perfectly normal as someone who is 39 weeks and 3 days pregnant can feel. I parked in my normal spot and walked roughly a half mile to the office. I went about my normal work duties (it was month end close so we were fairly busy). Then everything changed around 4:15pm when my water broke...at work...while talking to a coworker.

I quickly told my boss I had to leave. She gave me a funny look and I quickly explained that my water had broken. I think my entire group was kind of stunned and no one really processed the information until I was headed toward the elevator, cell phone in hand calling Brad, ready for the half a mile walk to my car. Brad answered his phone with "is it time?" I told him it was and we argued for a few minutes about if a) he should come pick me up (I said no because I didn't want my car to be left at work); b) he should meet me at the hospital (I said no because I wanted to go to the hospital together); or c) if I should drive home, meet him there and then we would go to the hospital together (my suggestion and the winning one...surprise, surprise). As I was walking to my car one of my coworkers came running down the street behind me making sure I was ok. I assured her I was and we walked to our cars together. After promising to text her as soon as I got home she let me get in my car to drive home.

Upon arriving home, Brad finished packing my hospital bag while I took a quick shower and changed clothes. By 5pm we were on our way to the hospital...in rush hour traffic. By 6pm the contractions had started, by 7pm we were in our room and at 10pm I received an epidural. After months of waiting I could hardly believe that our little Michael would soon be joining us. But he wasn't quite ready to make his appearance on December 8.

Because...

Because every once in a while I should post a picture of someone besides Mike so you all remember what we look like.
